Road trip... and the rain...

Johnny and I took a road trip a few weeks ago. It was a beautiful day!!! Sunny with just a few puffy clouds. Perfect day for a drive.
We went up by Clear Lake for Johnny to get his hunting tree stand out of the tree as hunting season is over. We get there and walk about 15 minutes in to the tree stand. Above is the pic of when we are about 5 minutes in. We saw several deer and doe or whatever you call them along the way in. The air was brisk and clean smelled so good. LOVED IT!! I miss fresh air. Ha!!

We get to the tree and Johnny takes about 15 minutes getting it down and packed up. As soon as he finish we started to walk back. About 3 steps from the tree a little tiny drop of rain lands on my nose. And apparently on Johnny's too... because we both looked at each other and said "its sprinkling!!" and we kept on walking thinking it should clear up in a second. Especially since it wasn't even cloudy when we walked in there 35 minutes earlier. About 10 steps later it started to 'sprinkle' a little harder. And then harder.... and then it was a full on rain. We started laughing... after all it's only a random little sprinkle/rain right? Um no, within 3 minutes of it starting it was POURING!! We got drenched!!!!

By the time we made it back to the truck we were soaked through and through. And cold!! So we cranked up the heater and cracked the windows and started to drive to old town Clear Lake. Unfortunately the rain did NOT let up and we were so cold and soggy that we decided to not leave the truck to walk around. Not to mention, neither of us had a jacket. We did stop for about an hour at the Jackson Casino though. We grabbed a coffee, gambled $100 of his money (he lost $80.00 and I made $50 on the $20.00 I used. Heehee) took this picture and left.

Johnny ended up with really bad cold from the adventure. I ended up with these pics and we both have the memories!!

Holiday Festivities

Last year I decided to be fun and do some holiday games and activities at work. Why, I don't know. It appears to be my legacy though... as I have been requested to do it again this year. So I am. This is my chicken scratch schedule of events: Not that you can see it. So I'll break it down.
We only have games on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday's as on Monday and Friday people are off for workshare days.
Prizes are awarded to the winners. Here are a few of the things they can chose from (God bless the $1 section at Target and the Dollar store): The tree is mine... they can't have that.
I am also coordinating the potlucks as well as the card/money/gift for our boss.
Every game below has copies ran and bundled together in their respective groups by the day they are to be played. When it's game time I page over the intercom and ring a Jingle Bell I have... you should hear the woo hoo's when I do this... it is too funny.
And yes I even get stuck decorating the stupid tree!!!

My Kryptonite

So back in November I catered with Courtney's family... for something. Some sort of church Christmas party I think. Anyways, I LOVE catering with the Montagues. Not just because of the food, I know that is what you were all thinking, but because they are so fun to work with!! Always laid back, laughing, getting the job done and having fun while doing it. But I regress.... back to the food. My absolute FAVORITE thing that the Montagues serve is the garlic bread. Oh good Lord it is good!!!
And I will tell you why:
- the bread it grilled over the wood burning grill
- the butter has been melted over it as well, and has been infused with the smokey flavor
- LOTS of butter.... REAL butter
- LOTS of garlic
After the bread is grilled and the butter and garlic is melted they put it in a pan:
cut the bread in half and literally shove it into the butter. Like practically dunk the whole piece. The bread comes out soaking in the garlic butter and it drips down your chin when you bite into it... oh my... oh my.... I'm salivating just thinking about it.
I could talk about this for a long time... but it's making me hungry. So I must move on now.

The Reason for the Season

Jesus is better than Santa.
Santa lives at the North Pole
JESUS is everywhere.
Santa rides in a sleigh
JESUS rides on the wind and walks on the water.
Santa comes but once a year
JESUS is an ever present help.
Santa fills your stockings with goodies
JESUS supplies all your needs.
Santa comes down your chimney uninvited
JESUS stands at your door and knocks…and then enters your heart.
You have to stand in line to see Santa
JESUS is as close as the mention of His name.
Santa lets you sit on his lap
JESUS lets you rest in His arms.
Santa doesn't know your name, all he can say is "Hi little boy or girl, what's your name?"
JESUS knew our name before we did. Not only does He know our name, He knows our address too. He knows our history and future and He even knows how many hairs are on our heads.
Santa has a belly like a bowl full of jelly
JESUS has a heart full of love.
All Santa can offer is HO HO HO
JESUS offers health, help and hope.
Santa says "You better not cry"
JESUS says "Cast all your cares on me for I care for you.
Santa's little helpers make toys
JESUS makes new life, mends wounded hearts, repairs broken homes and builds mansions.
Santa may make you chuckle but
JESUS gives you joy that is your strength.
While Santa puts gifts under your tree
JESUS became our gift and died on the tree.
It's obvious there is really no comparison.
We need to remember WHO Christmas is all about.
We need to put Christ back in Christmas.
Jesus is still the reason for the season.

May the Lord Bless and Watch over you and your loved ones this Christmas 2008 and may He prosper and bless the work of your hands in the New Year!!

Words of Wisdom

Mommy actually works at Home Depot and was selling a shovel, but it might be best to always check your kids homework before they turn it in.

Genesis through Deuteronomy

My parents gave me a hot pink NIV Adventure Bible on my birthday January 28, 1991. LOVE that Bible. The color, the way it reads etc...
So I opened up said Bible yesterday.... only to have the books Genesis through Deuteronomy fall completely out.... and the rest about ready too. Awesome. That did not make me happy. I am such a ragamuffin!!! Everything I have is stained, holey, ripped, broken and just plain falling apart. ((sigh))

Broiled Egg Salad Sandwich

Broiled Egg Salad Sandwich
Boiled eggs, about 3 per sandwich
Mayo
Mustard
Salt
Pepper
Garlic Powder
Oregano
Red Onion
Cheddar Cheese
Bread

Preheat oven to Broil.

Combine egg, mayo, mustard, salt and pepper to your taste as you would a normal egg salad sandwich. Then add garlic powder and oregano to your taste. (I like a lot of oregano.... which you can't see in the pic. But trust me. Its there.)
Spread onto bread of your choice.

Then top with chopped or sliced onions as liberally as you like.
Next comes the cheese.
Broil until chess is bubbly and starts to brown.
I broil a second piece of bread as well garlic bread style. You can either put that piece on top of your egg sandwich or just eat it on the side.

Thank you to Julia Bylow who taught me this recipe when I visited her in Sioux Falls South Dakota when I was 17. Good memories. This is one of our family favorites and so quick and easy for a hot and filling meal.

Enjoy!!
